Best in Business finalists announced

The Birmingham Business Journal this week announced the finalists for its fifth annual Best in Business awards. Members of the UAB business school faculty selected this year's winners from among 24 nominees in six categories. There are four categories for businesses and two for individuals. Awards will be presented June 7 at The Club.
Finalists for the 2001 Executive of the Year award are Kenneth L. Jackson, president of Dudley C. Jackson Inc.; J. Wray Pearce, founder of Pearce Bevill Leesburg Moore; Thomas H. Lowder, president and CEO of Colonial Properties Trust; and Jeffrey Bayer, president of Bayer Properties. Last year's Executive of the Year was Van Richey, CEO of American Cast Iron Pipe Co. (ACIPCO).
For the 2001 Rising Star award, the finalists are Randy Shealy, CEO of Southern Research; Jeff Cooke, president of American Mailing; William B. Johnson, president of Alden Systems; and Neal Smith, CEO of LA Weight Loss. Last year's Rising Star was Jay Chapman, president of Capstone Building Corp.
For businesses with 1-25 employees, the finalists are: Mark's Outdoor Sports, American Behavioral, HPH Properties and ComFrame. For companies with 26-100 employees: Bayer Properties, Cahaba Cycles, CV Travel Inc. and Imaging Business Machines. For businesses with 101-400 employees: Virginia College, Integrated Medical Systems Inc., Alden Systems and All Seasons Travel Agency. For companies with 400 or more employees: Caremark Rx Inc., RTM South, Colonial Properties Trust and Southern Research Institute.
